Buying second-hand safely: payment, proof and returns
How to protect your money when you buy pre-owned: the proof to ask for, the payment methods that protect you and what to do at handover.
Before you agree to buy

Pay in a way that protects you
- Use the marketplace's own checkout and buyer protection whenever you can
- Credit cards and payment services with buyer protection give you a way to dispute a charge
- Avoid bank transfers, cash in advance, gift cards, crypto and “friends and family” payments to people you do not know
Meeting in person

When the item arrives
- Film yourself opening the parcel, so you have a record if something is wrong
- Compare the item with the listing photos and serials straight away
- Run a check on your own photos of the item
- If something is wrong, contact the seller and the platform quickly; most protection schemes have time limits

Know what a check is
A VerifAI result is an AI opinion based on the photos you provide, with the evidence behind it. It is not a physical inspection, a guarantee or insurance. For a high-value item, use it together with the seller's documents, the platform's protection and, if you are still unsure, a professional authenticator.

Prove it's genuine
